Artist Residency
AVE Doñana I
The Residency
Christian Vinck in Doñana
The AVE Doñana Artist Residency seeks to foster a dialogue with specialists from the Doñana Biological Station (Estación Biológica Doñana) to understand the characteristics of the wetlands and their biodiversity. This program promotes the relationship between art and nature, fostering environmental awareness and creating works that reflect the beauty and importance of these ecosystems. The program offers the artist the opportunity to experience the natural reserve in situ for a specific period and to draw inspiration from its environment to create new works of art.
The first artist residency in Doñana, starring Christian Vinck, was successfully carried out during the summer of 2024. The artist received comprehensive support, including interviews and fieldwork alongside the reserve’s biologists, which allowed him to closely observe the research and conservation activities underway in the park. Furthermore, additional meetings were organized to delve deeper into specific aspects of the project.
During his stay, Vinck actively participated in various field tasks, such as monitoring vegetation, studying ants and biomasses associated with the Argentine ant, analyzing soil-atmosphere gas exchange, and tracking tortoises (terrapins/turtles) and butterflies. In each of these activities, the artist maintained a personal photographic record while researchers and technicians explained the ongoing projects and field data collection methods in detail.
