EL ORIGEN. Cosmogonías Americanas. Una revisión de personajes mitológicos y figuras arquetípicas de pueblos originarios del continente

We are delighted to invite you to the art talk EL ORIGEN. Cosmogonías Americanas. Una revisión de personajes mitológicos y figuras arquetípicas de pueblos originarios del continente, led by renowned artist Antonio Briceño.

On this occasion, the artist reminds us that hundreds of indigenous cultures with diverse degrees of social and cultural complexity still exist on the American continent. The author has made the mythical and spiritual universe of these peoples the object of his study for decades. El Origen is a photographic series that offers an iconographic proposal to illustrate this intangible world of our original peoples before it is too late: archetypes, deities, mythological figures, concepts, emotions, and situations that, in general, belong to the mystical, spiritual, psychic, emotional, and symbolic realm.

About Antonio Briceño: Antonio Briceño (Caracas, 1966) holds a degree in Biology (Universidad Central de Venezuela, 1993) and a Master's Degree in Digital Arts (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Spain, 2015). He lives and works between Caracas and Barcelona. Since 1987, his work has been exhibited internationally, both individually and collectively, on more than one hundred occasions. Over the last 38 years, he has worked with more than 40 indigenous peoples worldwide.

He represented Venezuela at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007). His awards include the Luis Felipe Toro Prize (Museum of Fine Arts of Caracas, 1997); the Green Leaf Award for Artistic Excellence (2008), granted by the Natural World Museum and the UN; and the AICA Prize (2011) as an Established Artist, for his sustained career and contributions in using photography as a medium to communicate a poetics that advocates for respect for the planet, its inhabitants, and its cultures.
