FLASH TALKS: Miami Schmatta

META Miami and Flash Talks cordially invite you to join us for

FLASH TALKS: Miami Schmatta

A special screening of the 50-minute documentary Miami Schmatta, by directors Aaron Glickman and Clare Vickery.

The documentary explores the rich history of Miami's garment industry and the pivotal role that immigrants played in its rise and eventual decline. The film highlights the industry's golden age after World War II and its subsequent struggles, while celebrating the stories of resilience, hope, and hard work from the people who built it.

This history is powerfully embodied by the Dorissa of Miami building, now the home of our foundation, META Miami. The building once served as the central hub for Dorissa, a successful children's dress company founded in the 1960s that grew with the talent of Cuban seamstresses. The two-story factory became a landmark and a symbol of a business built on immigrant ingenuity and dedication. Today, the iconic "Dorissa" name remains on its facade as a lasting tribute to the city's fashion and immigrant legacy.

Directors Aaron Glickman and Clare Vickery will be in attendance for an introduction and post-screening Q&A.

About Flash Talks: Flash Talks is a curated event series that invites creative individuals to share what truly lies behind their work — their inspiration, creative process, and the personal or professional journey that shapes their craft.

Our goal is for the audience to experience more than just a compelling presentation; we want them to walk away with new insights, fresh ideas, and a deeper emotional and intellectual connection to each speaker’s artistic and human story. Whether it’s through visuals, storytelling, or live demonstrations, Flash Talks celebrates creativity in all its forms by shining a light on the “why” behind the work.
